The large, hulking physique of a professional football player usually doesn’t illicit images of a massage therapist, but to the writers of this Blog it most certainly does. Why? (more…)

Sports Massage Therapy and Football
Thursday, April 21st, 2011Sports Massage Therapy and Baseball
Friday, January 28th, 2011As we’ve written in past entries, sports massage can be extremely beneficial to all athletes as massage therapy targeted to key areas of the body can help improve an athlete’s range of motion and flexibility, helping to reduce the chance of serious injury.
This would make its application to baseball seem obvious, as improved flexibility and range of motion would help fielders, batters and pitchers in their performance. But a little more research into the subject of baseball and sports massage shows just how helpful the modality is for the sport. (more…)
Sports Massage Therapy for Runners
Monday, December 27th, 2010We’ve written generally about massage therapy and its benefits for athletes (see our entry on Sports Massage), but often times a description of the general benefits can gloss over the specific positives sports massage provides athletes of a specific sport. Today’s Blog will focus on running and how sports massage can help runners. (more…)
Sports Massage: Using Massage Therapy to Improve Range of Motion
Saturday, November 27th, 2010An exciting finding recently published in the academic Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research shows that short, targeted massage therapy sessions can increase an individual’s range of motion. While more research needs to be done to examine whether different types of massage therapy can work similarly on different muscle groups, the implications of the study are clear: Sports massage therapy can help increase an athlete’s range of motion. NFL Star Looks to Massage Therapy for Next Career Move
Thursday, December 10th, 2009I’m sure a lot of you provide massage therapy for athletes, including football players. How would you like the tables (pun intended) flipped on you?
I know we’re a bit late reporting this, but I thought this was an interesting story to bring up. Ricky Williams – one of the greatest college football players ever, and a current running for the Miami Dolphins (check out a recent clip of his work) is thinking about his career options after he retires. And he wants to be a massage therapist. (more…)
Massage: A Deeper Look (Part II)
Wednesday, May 27th, 2009One of the most important things to do before giving – or receiving – a deep tissue massage is to determine which muscles need a deep tissue approach. It’s very rare that all muscles will need to have deep tissue massage and recipients can end up more beat up and tense after their massage if they do not identify which areas are to receive deep tissue massage, and which are to not. (more…)
Massage: A Deeper Look (Part I)
Thursday, May 21st, 2009I’ve been blogging recently about animal massage – even snake massage (my stomach still clenches when I think about that one!) and both entries touched briefly on “deep massage”. I think it’s important to understand what deep tissue massage actually is and where it fits in within the massage world. (more…)
Massage for the New Year
Monday, January 19th, 2009It is the beginning of a new year, which can be an energizing yet worrisome time. Like a blast of cold wind, the month of January brings to our attention the possibility of new opportunities and causes us to reflect on the goals we didn’t reach in the previous twelve months. Although the new year is seen as a clean slate, the vast array of choices we have can fill us with anxiety and leave us feeling overwhelmed and powerless to make significant long term changes. Consider using massage therapy as a tool to overcome anxiety and keep your mind, body and spirit working in harmony to achieve your goals this year. (more…)
Massage Helps Cyclists Reach Peak Performance
Wednesday, July 30th, 2008If you have ever watched television coverage of a major cycling race, such as the Tour de France or Giro d’Italia, you have undoubtedly seen an array of motorcycles and cars huddled together, driving perilously close to the riders. These support vehicles carry a variety of supplies that are critical to keep the riders performing at their best. Some of the must-haves are what you might expect—water, food, extra tires and bicycles, but there is also one very important resource that one might not immediately think of—a massage therapist. Take Time-Outs to Cut the Risk of being Sidelined!
Friday, July 18th, 2008We all have daily stressors and it is not easy to find the time to accomplish everything we would like to get done each day. With the demands on our time rising, finding an opportunity to rest is becoming more and more rare. Every free moment is usually occupied with a task and it is easy to get lost in the small details of everyday life. (more…)
